The Geek Stuff in Me
On all materrs relating to geek stuff, nothing says it better than this: My geekiness has gone into remission, but I don't think I'll ever quite get rid of my sci-fi abuse problem' Anonymous Trekkie quotation Although I started out a computer science techie in college, writing code hardly emerged as a calling. Between my passion for writing (words more than code), and the booming 'new' economy as it was coined in the 90's, my career as a writer and online marketer took on a life of its own. But at heart I remained a geek. Between writing assignments I would scour the pages of Wired magazine, walk myself through the nuts and bolts of web marketing, and guzzle down any bit of sci-fi gossip I could get my mouse on. The kids who grew up on a steady diet of Macs, Spielberg movies, and MTV were inheriting the 'new economy'. That economy is of course not so new any more – it has become part of the fabric of our lives. Geek culture gave birth to online communities, blockbuster trilogies, and a global lifestyle that commutes across all continents on the information superhighway. I had found my calling on the web, and I was hooked. Of course, I'm just one random geek in a universal marketplace. And I'm not talking just gadgets and Star Trek paraphernalia.
